Mary Beth Hurt, the triple Tony-nominated actress, died Saturday.
The actress, best known for her work in ‘The World According to Garp’ (1982) and ‘Affliction’ (1997), died on March 28 at the age of 78 after battling Alzheimer’s for more than a decade.
News of Marie’s death was announced by her daughter Molly Schrader on Instagram on Sunday, and Marie’s husband, writer-director Paul Schrader, also confirmed her passing to The Hollywood Reporter.
“Yesterday morning we lost our mother Mary Beth to Alzheimer’s after battling the disease for a decade. She was an actress, a wife, a sister, a mother, an aunt, a friend, and she played all of these roles with grace and kindness,” Molly wrote a detailed note along with a photo of herself as a child with her mother.
“Although we are saddened, there is some relief in knowing that she is no longer suffering and has been peacefully reunited with her sisters.”
For those unaware, the late actress was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2015.
Mary was best known for her 1980s stage and film roles and starred in Oscar-nominated films including ‘Six Degrees of Separation’ and ‘The World According to Garp’.
