I’ve been using regular earbuds to help me sleep for a long time, but I never thought a company would actually make earbuds specifically for sleeping. Anker’s Soundcore Sleep A20 (and the new A30) are exactly that: earbuds designed to block out excess noise without putting uncomfortable pressure on your ears.
I’ve been using the A20 for over a year, and can’t recommend them enough. Right now, they’re priced at $60 during Amazon’s Big Spring Sale, which brings them down to $119.99 (Originally $179.99). According to the price-tracking tool, the new A30 buds are also available at their lowest price ever: $179.99 (down from $199.99).
I love A20 earbuds
The Sleep A20 are not active noise-canceling earbuds, which is why they are able to have such a small, unobtrusive form factor. Instead, they use in-ear seals to create a natural noise barrier, which, in my experience, works really well. They fit comfortably and don’t put pressure on your ears when you sleep on your side. It’s rare that I wake up to find one of them lost under the covers after falling during the night, but it does happen sometimes (you can use the Find Device feature, which emits a loud sound through the earbuds).
Battery life is 14 hours in sleep mode, which includes broadcasting white noise or soothing sounds from the Soundcore app. In Bluetooth mode, you can listen to podcasts or music, but this will reduce battery life by up to eight hours. The charging case gives them up to 80 hours total life between plug-ins.
What do you think so far?
The new A30 earbuds offer true ANC
new a30 Battery life is poor, but it’ll get you through the night: you get 9 hours of playback when listening to white noise, 6.5 hours when listening to music via Bluetooth, and 45 hours of extra juice from the case. The good news is that they include true active noise canceling (ANC), which is great if you sleep in a noisy environment. The companion app lets you set a timer for your music, so it doesn’t use up all your battery once you fall asleep.
It also has a feature that blocks out the sound of snoring using the microphone in the case, which is a lifesaver if you sleep in the same room with a noisy partner. And if you’re worried about not hearing an alarm, you can set one in the app, which also includes a few features that measure the quality of your sleep.
