I can’t lie, I haven’t always been the best at applying sunscreen. Over the years, I’ve managed to find what works best for me, but the process hasn’t been particularly easy. For some context, I grew up in a Caribbean family, and sunscreen use isn’t talked about as often as it should be.

What is the difference between chemical and mineral sunscreens?
Adisa explains that mineral (or physical) sunscreens are “composed of titanium oxide and zinc oxide, which reflect UV radiation. Chemical sunscreens are made of organic compounds that absorb UV radiation.” In other words, you can think of mineral sunscreen as a shield to scatter harmful sun rays. When a chemical sunscreen absorbs radiation, it is converted into heat radiated from the skin.
