Competition between IPL 2026 Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) And Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) One of the most unusual dismissals of the season occurred at Eden Gardens.

KKR vs SRH: A rare run-out that left everyone confused

While chasing the target in the sixth over of KKR. cameron green The run was given out – but what made the moment truly bizarre was that his batting partner Angkrish Raghuvanshi initially started walking back to the pavilion thinking he was out.

The incident caused immediate confusion among players, commentators, and fans. At first glance, it appeared to be a simple mix-up between the batsmen, but the final decision was based on a lesser-known rule that often surprises casual spectators.

This drama unfolded on the last ball of the sixth over. Raghuvanshi played a straight shot towards bowler Ishan Malinga, who reacted instinctively by taking out his boot and deflecting the ball. Seeing an opportunity for a quick single, Raghuvanshi called and went the set to the striker.

Cameron Green responded immediately from the non-striker end. However, within seconds things went wrong. Seeing how quickly Malinga had recovered the ball, Raghuvanshi hesitated in the middle of the pitch. That brief moment of doubt completely disrupted communication.

Both the batsmen suddenly felt that they were stuck in the middle of the pitch, not knowing whether to move forward or return. Sensing the opportunity, Malinga collected the ball and calmly broke the stumps at the striker’s end.

At that time, Raghuvanshi seemed convinced that he was responsible for the mess. In a rare display of sportsmanship, he appeared ready to sacrifice his wicket. But the umpires did not agree that it was that straightforward and referred the decision to the third umpire.

    Here is the video:

The rule that decided Cameron Green’s fate

Replays provided the clarity needed to take the final decision. Key details were the positions of both the batsmen at the moment the stumps broke. The footage showed that the two players did not cross each other when the bails were uprooted.

According to the rules of cricket, when a run-out occurs and both the batsmen are at the same end or are caught in the middle, the batsman who is closer to the wicket placed down is given out.

In this case, the striker’s end stumps were broken. Green, who had moved towards that wicket from the non-striker’s end, was physically close to him at that time. On the other hand, Raghuvanshi could not progress that far.

As a result, Green was ruled out, despite Raghuvanshi appearing to be at fault. The decision highlighted how cricket laws prioritize situation over intention or responsibility.

Green had to be withdrawn after scoring just 2 runs off 2 balls, while Raghuvanshi – who had already started leading – was called back to continue his innings.

The rule may seem confusing, but it is there to ensure fairness. This prevents teams from choosing which batsman should be sacrificed and instead relies on an objective measurement – who is closer to the broken wicket.

Despite Angkrish Raghuvanshi getting relief, KKR failed to reach the finish line

Raghuvanshi took full advantage of her unexpected relief. He played a brilliant innings and scored 52 runs in 29 balls with the help of fours and sixes, giving KKR some hope to chase the target.

However, the team’s struggles with running between the wickets did not end there. In a cruel twist, Raghuvanshi was later run out again after another foul, this time involving Rinku Singh.

KKR’s innings finally collapsed Was out for 161 runs in only 16 oversIt fell far short of the target and lost the match by 65 runs.
