Planned Parenthood plans to perform an all-time high of 434,450 abortions of unborn babies in 2023–2024, according to the organization’s annual report.

According to the group, nearly half of Planned Parenthood’s revenue came from taxpayer dollars, even as abortion services increased and other services decreased. 2024-2025 Annual Report. Notably, Planned Parenthood also reported a net loss of revenue for the first time in recent years.

In response to the report, advocates for unborn children are renewing their call to permanently defund Planned Parenthood.

Abortion is a priority for Planned Parenthood

The number of abortions is at an all-time high 8% increase Compared to the previous year, there were approximately 32,000 more abortions than the previous year. The numbers do not include telehealth chemical abortions, which account for a growing percentage of all abortions.

Planned Parenthood’s other services such as preventive care, Pap tests and cancer screenings are all decreased by from last year, continuing a decade-long trend, according to a report by Charlotte Lozier InstituteA research and education group that advocates for unborn children and mothers.

Michael New, a Charlotte Lozier Institute scholar and assistant professor at the Catholic University of America, told EWTN News that the recent annual report is “consistent with long-term trends.”

“During the past 10 years, the number of abortions performed by Planned Parenthood has increased more than 34%,New said. “Meanwhile, cancer screenings declined by more than 42% and prenatal services declined by more than 55% during the same period.”

“They perform about 40% of the abortions in the United States,” New said. “Abortion is a huge revenue source for them so it’s not surprising that they prioritize abortion while cutting some health care services.”

Tessa Cox, another senior research associate at the institute, said that “over the past decade, access to abortion, government funding, and total revenues have increased even as client numbers have declined and total services have stagnated.”

Dr. Christina Francis, who heads the American Association of Pro-Life Obstetricians and Gynecologists, said that “an organization that presents death as the main driver of health care and their services cannot be expected to be taken seriously as a health care provider.”

“With each annual report, Planned Parenthood proves it is more concerned with decriminalizing abortion than promoting the beauty and strength of motherhood,” Francis told EWTN News.

Advocacy goals: Defense of Planned Parenthood

Despite declines in other services, more taxpayer money continues to go to Planned Parenthood.

In 2023-2024, abortion providers receive more than $830 million in government grants, contracts and Medicaid reimbursements – nearly $40 million more than the previous year. This was an increase of 50% from 2014, or 10% when adjusted for inflation.

New stated that “Planned Parenthood is heavily dependent on taxpayer funding.”

“It is not surprising that nearly 50 Planned Parenthood facilities ceased operations after being made ineligible for federal Medicaid funding starting in fiscal year 2026,” New said.

Advocates for unborn children agree: Defunding Planned Parenthood is a priority, especially in light of the report.

New said, “Defending Planned Parenthood remains an important policy goal for pro-lifers.”

Although the movement to defund Planned Parenthood had some success last year, President Donald Trump’s budget defunds abortion providers for only one year.

New continued, “Pro-lifers should encourage President Trump and congressional Republicans to pass a 2027 budget that prevents Planned Parenthood from receiving federal Medicaid dollars.” “That said, funding cuts to Planned Parenthood due to the increasing prevalence of telehealth abortions may not have a large impact on abortion incidence in the short term.”

Noah Brandt, a spokesman for Live Action, a human rights group that advocates for unborn children, said that “32,000 more innocent children were killed than last year.”

“These tragic statistics show why we cannot make the decision to block federal funding to abortion giants for one year, which is set to expire on July 4, 2026,” Brandt told EWTN News.

He added, “Congress needs to step up defunding and make it permanent to stop the flow of public dollars to an organization that is killing nearly half a million American children every year.”

Francis noted the importance of cultural change and legal safeguards for chemical abortion pills.

Francis said, “The pro-life movement has two battles: fighting the anti-motherhood narrative that has infected American society and fighting the abortion pill epidemic that has spread on the Internet because of the Biden administration’s reckless policies and the Trump administration’s unwillingness to restore safeguards for abortion drugs.”

Cox said that “women deserve better options,” noting that these options “exceed Planned Parenthood.” 15 to 1 Nationwide.”

Planned Parenthood did not respond to a request for comment by the time of publication.
