This homemade grape salad recipe couldn’t be more simple, requiring only five ingredients! You can make this in about 10 minutes plus the chill time. I love the pairing of crunchy fresh grapes with sweet cream cheese and a crunchy walnut topping. This may seem like a weird combo to some people but it works and feels like the Midwest to me.
Grape salad is one of those dishes that makes me think of big family meals or potluck dinners or cookout picnics over the holidays. Of course, the word ‘salad’ is being used quite liberally here. 🙂 It’s a lot like Ambrosia Salad or Watergate Salad. This is not a green, leafy salad, more like a side dish of lightly sweet fruits.

Material
- red seedless grapes
- Cream Cheese, Soft
- Greek yogurt
- Brown sugar
- Spiced Walnuts or Pecans

How to make grape salad
Wash the grapes and remove the stalks. Keep aside to dry.
Stir together softened cream cheese, Greek yogurt and brown sugar. If you want the creamy mixture to be completely smooth, free of lumps, I recommend using an electric mixer and blending the cream cheese itself first and then adding the other ingredients. Personally, I don’t think having a few knots makes a big difference. Call me lazy, but once you add the nutty topping it doesn’t really look/look smooth in any way.
Mix the cream cheese mixture with the grapes so that they are all coated. Chop the nuts and sprinkle on top.
Chill the salad for 30 minutes or more so everything is nice and cold before serving.

Notes and replacements
- I like to use all red grapes but you can use a mix of red and green or all green. But whatever color you choose, I stick to seedless grapes.
- If you want to make it lighter, use low-fat cream cheese.
- I prefer to use Greek yogurt but sour cream works equally well.
- I like to use spiced (sweet) nuts for the topping but other options include chopped Snickers (yes! this is more ‘traditional’ or common where I live) or graham crackers.
- If you make this grape salad ahead of time, such as the night before you plan to serve it, save the walnut topping and sprinkle it on just before serving.
