according to reutersAsked about the project during the company’s capital markets day in Florence, Kering CEO Luca De Meo said the timeline is “probably next year, 2027.” This would pit Gucci against the likes of Meta and Essilor Luxottica, whose Ray-Ban smart glasses are still the most famous example of tech and eyewear brands jointly innovating.

The Google-Kering partnership itself is not new. Kering Eyewear announces Partnership with Google in May 2025 to develop AI-powered glasses with Android XR, but now we may have an idea of when a Gucci-branded product might appear.
Google has already spent a lot of time showing off ideas for Android XR. The company has been showcasing various smart glass concepts and talking up a broader Glass roadmap in recent months, but much of it still feels a bit preliminary and abstract. Given the pace at which the entire sector is evolving, Gucci’s timeline could fit in well.
How does this even fit? reuters Says Kering is trying to work more broadly. De Meo is looking to grow the group’s glasses and jewelry businesses, still a relatively small part of the company, while also helping Kering escape the industry pressures that have weighed on Gucci in recent years.
