Pete Hegseth accidentally quoted an iconic scene from Pulp Fiction instead of the Bible while leading a prayer at the Pentagon yesterday.
The US Defense Secretary, while discussing the rescue operation of an American fighter pilot trapped in Iran, urged Christians to pray with him.
But his appeal failed when he misquoted a line from the Bible and used lines from the iconic Quentin Tarantino film.
Hegseth said: “When I take vengeance on you you will know my call sign is Sandy 1”.
The actual Bible verse of Ezekiel 25:17 promises “great retribution upon them with fiery rebuke”, which was changed by director Tarantino.
The altered version is presented correctly in the film, just before Samuel L. Jackson’s character shoots and kills a man.

Pope Leo appears to call Trump a dictator in unprecedented indirect attack
Hegseth told the audience that the prayer was recently recited by the “Sandy One” Combat Search and Rescue (CSAR) mission to rescue a downed Iranian airman.
The secretary said, “They call it CSAR 25:17, which I think is meant to reflect Ezekiel 25:17.”
Hegseth earlier vowed that the US was “locked and loaded” to resume fighting as the clock ticked down to the end of the shaky Iran war ceasefire on Wednesday.
Army chief of staff General Dan Kane said forces including thousands of newly arrived troops were “ready to resume major combat operations at a moment’s notice”.
An Iranian cargo ship was one of at least 13 ships forced to turn back due to US warships blocking the Strait of Hormuz, US military CENTCOM chiefs said yesterday.
A spokesman said the “Iranian-flagged cargo ship” attempted to avoid patrolling warships by crossing the Iranian coast while passing through the strait.
Encountered by the USS Spruance guided-missile warship, it made a sharp U-turn and headed back towards the Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas.
CENTCOM stressed that no ships entering or leaving Iranian ports have crossed paths with US forces since the blockade began on Monday.
But the 24-mile oil artery – which carries a fifth of the world’s crude supply – remained closed yesterday to other vessels also threatened by the rogue state.
Peace talks aimed at ending the economically debilitating 49-day war will resume in Pakistan next week.
Historic peace talks are also planned between Israel and Lebanon – which harbors Iran-backed Hezbollah – for the first time since 1993.
But fears of a bloody conflict remain – with fears of a Third World War – as Iran continues to reject Trump’s demands to dismantle its nuclear targets and stop terror financing.
More than 6,000 US ground troops were headed to the war zone yesterday aboard the USS George HW Bush aircraft carrier and her escort ships.
They will join 4,200 amphibious troops aboard the USS Boxer from the 11th Marine Expeditionary Unit, expected before the end of the month.
About 3,500 troops aboard the USS Tripoli have recently entered the combat zone, supported by 3,000 crack airborne troops who have already flown within striking distance of the front lines.
It comes after the Pope leo Yesterday launched an extraordinary attack on the “tyrants” who spend billions of dollars on war by indirectly attacking Donald Trump.
The Pope hit back after days of abuse from the US President, who branded him “very weak” and accused him of thinking “it’s OK for Iran to have nuclear weapons”.
Leo said on a papal visit to conflict-torn Cameroon: “The world is being destroyed by a handful of tyrants.
owner The people of war do not know that it only takes a moment to destroy, yet often a lifetime is not enough to rebuild.
Trump became the leader of the world’s 1.4 billion Catholics – including 70 million in the US – after Leo declared the Iran war “truly unacceptable” last week.
He described Trump’s recent threat to destroy “the entire civilization” in Iran as morally inexcusable.
The controversy began on Monday after Trump posted a messiah-like AI image of him healing a sick bedridden man, but removed it after a backlash from angry Christians.
America’s Bible Belt voters form a significant portion of his support and he later attempted to reassure them that the image depicted him as a doctor.
