To me, it makes perfect sense for Apple to retire Cosmic Orange this year with the iPhone 18 Pro. I think Apple makes a lot of its iPhone color decisions based on fashion trends and the fashion industry.
In the fashion world, colors come and go in cycles. What makes Cosmic Orange for the iPhone 17 Pro so special is that it is unique. If it persists for several generations, it will lose some of that charm. As the kids say, it might even be “stale.”
Historically, Apple changes the “unique” color of a new phone every year when it is released. The iPhone 12 Pro was available in Pacific blue, the iPhone 13 Pro was available in Sierra blue and later Alpine green, and the iPhone 14 Pro was available in dark purple.
