In their last IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings, Mumbai Indians had a strong total of 196 runs to defend at the Wankhede Stadium. But things went completely wrong with the ball. PBKS chased the target with 21 balls to spare and defeated MI by seven wickets on April 16.

Against PBKS, Bumrah also gave 41 runs in his four overs without taking a single wicket. The most disappointing fact for Mumbai Indians is that even after playing five matches this season, Bumrah has not been able to take a single wicket yet.

Reacting to the struggles of the Mumbai Indians star bowler, former Indian batsman Wasim Jaffer has boldly claimed that Bumrah is not 100% fit and there is something lacking in his overall bowling in the ongoing IPL 2026.

Jaffer has also told that Bumrah’s body language is not the same as before. Cricket pundits have pointed out that earlier Bumrah looked fast, confident and always in control, but now his bowling lacks energy and rhythm and he is also missing his usual length, which is surprising to see in a bowler of his calibre.
Wasim Jaffer said on his YouTube channel, “To be honest, I think Jasprit Bumrah is not 100% fit. This is my perception and my belief. When we are watching Bumrah bowling, the body language we are seeing is not the same as we have seen in the World Cup or even before. So, sometimes I feel he is not at his best.
Because Jasprit Bumrah usually doesn’t miss his length like this and he doesn’t usually get hit like this. If he was 100% fit, I can’t imagine Jasprit Bumrah bowling like this and continuing like this. So I feel that somewhere he is not 100 percent fit.

‘Just a tough phase’: Wasim Jaffer supports Jasprit Bumrah amid tough phase
However, Jaffer defended Bumrah by saying that even top players can face layoffs or tough periods, and he was simply going through a tough phase where things were not going his way.
Jaffer further said, “It seems that that enthusiasm is missing in Bumrah’s bowling. It seems that the ball, which used to come fast and hit the bat hard, is now lacking a bit. The form is not always the same and it is not that Bumrah will bowl brilliantly every time or bowl brilliant spells in every match. Right now, it seems that he is going through a phase where things are not working properly.”
Now, all eyes will be on April 20, when Mumbai Indians face Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad in their next IPL 2026 match, and they will be hoping that Bumrah will be at his best soon, as they really need his performances to turn their season around.
