President Donald Trump said Sunday that the United States fired upon and seized an Iranian-flagged cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman.
in a post true socialThe President said that America stopped the ship named tauska in the Gulf of Oman and warned to stop it. When the ship did not stop, it was fired upon. The US has been imposing a naval blockade of ships entering and exiting Iranian ports since last week.
“The Iranian crew refused to listen, so our Navy ship stopped them in their tracks by blasting a hole in the engine room,” Trump said in the post. “Right now, the US Navy has custody of the ship. TOUSKA is under US Treasury sanctions due to its prior history of illegal activity.”
The seizure is an apparent escalation of the blockade and comes after Iran fired on commercial ships attempting to transit the Strait of Hormuz on Sunday.
US envoys led by Vice President JD Vance were expected to travel to Pakistan on Monday for a second round of peace talks with their Iranian counterparts, a White House official told CNBC. According to government media reports, Iran has rejected those talks.
