A small brush fire caused some significant damage Sunday in Yucca Valley — four structures were destroyed and one firefighter was injured.
The blaze, called the Skyline Fire, started around 2 a.m. in the 52000 block of Skyline Road and was expected to grow much larger in size, perhaps as much as 500 acres, by early afternoon, according to fire officials.
Two water-dropping helicopters and six air tankers were sent.
Further progress was halted on 39 acres – but not before four structures were destroyed. Details about the structures were not immediately released, but “damage inspection teams and the Red Cross have been requested to house several displaced residents,” according to an update From Cal Fire San Bernardino Unit Public Information Office.
Within two hours of the fire, officials reported that the threat to structures had “reduced”. Officials also said one firefighter was injured and treated at the scene. There was no indication that the injuries were serious enough to require hospitalization.
Just after 8:30 p.m., the Cal Fire bulletin reported that the fire was 25% contained, with limited potential for further spread. Officials said firefighters would be “working through the night” to contain the potential fire.
