Savannah Guthrie has a lot going on, not only has she returned to the Today show after her mother was kidnapped on January 1, 2026, but it seems she has ruled out any possibility of armed security at the NBC studio complex.
A reputable insider told celebrity news reporter Rob Shooter the reason for their decision.
the man responsible for naughty but nice Substack has heard that NBC was the one that offered round-the-clock personal security for the host. Even dedicated guards inside 30 Rock and Studio 1A were one of their offers, but they have said ‘no’ to it.
Why, the same insider explains, “She doesn’t want a bodyguard sitting outside her office or walking her down the hall. She wants to feel normal at work.”
“There is additional security at the show and throughout NBC right now. The building is locked down more tightly than usual.”
But that’s not all, the source said that they have also restricted access to the host. “Entry is stricter than ever. No passes, no entry – no exceptions.”
“Even long-serving employees are being fired for not following protocols. Rules are just rules.”
But while they accepted, her ‘no’ made it so that there would be no private, dedicated security for Savannah inside her office. “Their off-site security is being handled. But those details are private.”
As for the host, “She wants to come in, do her job and not feel like she’s surrounded by fear. She’s safe. But she’s not giving up her normal life.”
