Forget black and brown heels for a moment. As we ease into the spring/summer months, I’ve seen rich, wine-toned flats step into the shoes once dominated by classic black or brown heels. Taking my stand, Margot Robbie was wearing perhaps the most flattering interpretation of this trend yet this week. Stepping out in an early pair from Giorgio Armani’s autumn/winter 2026 collection – Margot’s sleek burgundy flats elevated her sleek, tailored look as much as any heel could have done. Wearing Armani from head to toe, she styled her look with gray tailored trousers, a tonal wool jacket, a high-neck blouse and a fine black knit underneath. A deep burgundy belt wrapped around her hips, echoing the color of her shoes for a tonal, sophisticated glow.

While heels will always have their place, there’s something inherently compelling about flat shoes in this deep neutral. Burgundy has an inherent richness that feels decidedly more polished in some contexts, yet still underpins the ease of a flat silhouette.
