Chennai Super Kings (CSK) got a massive win over their arch-rivals Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on April 23. Against CSK’s 207 runs, MI could score only 104 runs. Sanju Samson was named Player of the Match for his excellent inning of 101*.
After the match, former cricketer turned cricket expert Simon Doull faced several important questions related to the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He also commented on CSK’s leadership and Cameron Green’s future with Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Simon Doull’s important opinion on CSK
In the “True or False” question-answer video on Cricbuzz, the former cricketer explained each of his questions, instead of simply answering by saying true or false.
One of these questions was related to the captaincy of CSK. At present, Sanju Samson is far ahead of captain Ruturaj Gaikwad in batting. Some cricket fans have already started urging the franchise to hand over the captaincy from Gaikwad to Samson.
Should Chennai consider Sanju Samson as their captain?
Should CSK management consider Sanju Samson as their future leader? Doull believes this may be possible in the future.
“Not sure what the future holds or how far back the future is. I think they have made a commitment to Ruturaj. So, I don’t think Sanju is going to take over the captaincy in any way next year. (1:25) But if he had some really bad years and bad years, (1:30) then it could happen in the future,” the cricket expert said.
In response to a separate question, Dool also said that Gaikwad’s current form is probably not going that well. But when he gets back to his form, the opening pair of Samson and Gaikwad can be dynamic.
“I think he still has time, and I still think Ruturaj is a quality player. If he can get it right it will be a dynamic combination,” he said.
At present, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green is the most expensive foreign player in the IPL. Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) bought the fast bowling all-rounder for Rs 25.20 crore ($2.8 million/AUD4.2 million approx), making him the third most expensive player sold in the IPL auction and the most expensive overseas player ever.
Cameron Green’s future with Kolkata Knight Riders
Green is considered a replacement for Andre Russell, who announced his retirement from the league ahead of the 2026 season. The Australian star has played some good innings for KKR so far, but considering his price, it may not be enough to justify investing heavily in him. Should Knight Riders release him? This question is already there among cricket fans.
Simon Doull also feels that Green’s future with Kolkata Knight Riders does not look very bright at the moment. Therefore, it would not be a surprise if the franchise lets go of Cameron Green in the near future.
“Well, it depends on the back half of the season for Cam Green. He will be part of the Ashes setup. So, I think he won’t play any IPL at all next year. So, he could be released,” predicted Simon Doull.
