King Charles urged the inclusion of younger royals in a recently released portrait marking Queen Elizabeth II’s 100th birthday, sparking a debate over the aging face of the monarchy.
The image, taken at Buckingham Palace, features the King and Queen Camilla as well as senior royals including Prince William, Kate Middleton, Princess Anne and Prince Edward.
Most of the people included in the picture are over 60 and some are between 80 and 90.
Speaking on this, royal commentator Jenny Bond said that the photo highlights the growing disconnect between the monarchy and the younger generation.
He warned while speaking to mirror Lack of youth representation can foster apathy.
“There’s no denying the fact that the working royals today have a largely elderly group of people – and this increases the disconnect between the monarchy and the younger generation,” the insider said.
He added, “When William and Harry were pin-up boys, and then Catherine and Meghan came on the scene, young people were naturally more engaged and excited.
“And I’ve always thought that apathy, especially among young people, is the biggest threat to the popularity of the monarchy.”
