Ahead of King Charles’s state visit to the US, a shooting occurred at the White House correspondents’ dinner, where the suspect was arrested, and President Donald Trump remained unharmed.
However, it cast a shadow over the emperor’s high-profile visit, which had been in the works for months.
Needless to mention, the state visit to commemorate America’s 250th independence is being seen as a high risk for relations between the two countries, which are at odds over several policies.
Charles, carrying a heavy diplomatic responsibility, personally reached out to Trump and his wife Melania Trump after the shooting incident.
Now, a Palace spokesperson has confirmed that the visit will go ahead.
“After a day of discussions on both sides of the Atlantic, and acting on Government advice, we can confirm that Their Majesties’ state visit will go ahead as planned.”
“The King and Queen are very grateful to all those who have acted swiftly to ensure this remains the case and they look forward to the visit starting tomorrow,” the statement said.
