Delhi Capitals (DC) fast bowler Lungi Ngidi suffered a serious head injury during the IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on Saturday, April 25. After a massive fall, medical staff rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was later discharged.
Punjab Kings achieved an impressive target of 265 runs against Delhi Capitals, which is one of the most successful run chases in IPL history. When invited to bat first, wicketkeeper KL Rahul scored unbeaten 152 runs. PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer scored unbeaten 71 runs to give the team its sixth win of the season.

According to news agencies ANI and IANS, positive updates have emerged regarding Lungi Ngidi’s medical condition. DC fast bowler returned to Delhi Capitals team hotel after being discharged from BLK-Max Super Specialty Hospital.
“Lungi Ngidi is doing well and has now returned to the DC team hotel in New Delhi. Him being sent back to the hotel after being discharged from the hospital is a positive sign of his recovery and the franchise medical staff will continue to take good care of him,” sources told IANS.

Venugopal Rao shared an update on Ngidi’s condition during the post-match press conference. Delhi Capitals’ Director of Cricket said that the head injury does not appear to be serious, which has come as a relief to fans and teammates.
“I think it’s nothing serious. We will update, but it doesn’t seem anything serious,” Venugopal said during the post-match press conference.
Furthermore, the Indian Premier League Governing Council released an official update confirming that Ngidi is in a stable condition. Before the South African fast bowler was cleared to leave safely, Delhi Capitals Chairman Kiran Kumar Grandhi also visited him at the hospital.

This incident happened during the third over of the run chase. Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel bowled to Priyansh Arya, who played a high shot in the outfield. Lungi Ngidi ran backwards tracking the ball.
While trying to take the catch, Ngidi lost his balance and fell backwards hard. He hit the back of his head and neck on the turf without touching the ball, creating a worrying situation on the field.
Ngidi remained motionless, causing immediate concern among players and fans. Medical staff immediately arrived and placed a neck brace on him as he was unable to move his head. The match remained halted for about fifteen minutes.
For the first time in IPL history, an ambulance was brought to the field. Delhi Capitals head coach Hemang Badani and Punjab Kings head coach Ricky Ponting were also present as the medical staff carefully moved Ngidi into a vehicle for further treatment.
