Sir Keir Starmer has sent a message of solidarity to his counterpart President Donald Trump after the shooting at the White House correspondents dinner.
Darren Jones, the Prime Minister’s Chief Secretary, explains, “These are remarkable scenes. This morning, the Prime Minister has sent a message to the President of the United States to show solidarity with the events that have occurred.” sky News.
“As you would imagine, with His Majesty the King visiting this week, our teams are working closely to ensure that security arrangements are in place appropriately.”
Additionally, as King Charles arrived in the US for his most important meeting of the year, a spate of shootings at the high-profile event shook Washington, prompting the monarch to send a private message to President Donald Trump.
The chaos at the White House correspondents’ dinner, where President Trump was present and was reportedly stormed out of the ballroom, has cast a shadow over the monarch’s high-risk visit.
So, working behind the scenes, Charles has issued a fresh, carefully worded statement as he embarks on his three-day visit to the US.
“Her Majesty has been kept fully informed of the developments and is very relieved to hear that the President, the First Lady and all guests were unharmed,” Buckingham Palace told GB News.
Despite the shocking incident, the statement signals that talks will move forward on issues that have recently been a source of friction in US-UK relations.
“As you would expect, there will be a number of discussions throughout the day with US allies and our respective teams to discuss to what extent the events of Saturday evening may or may not impact operational planning for the trip.”
According to reports at present, Charles’s tour will go ahead.
