MS Dhoni suffers another injury before the match against GT
As CSK is missing the services of its former captain MS Dhoni, head coach Stephen Fleming has given an update saying that the team management is waiting to hear from the experienced cricketer. Earlier, Eric Simmons had also updated that the decision is entirely for Dhoni to take.
He has been a part of the CSK squad in the nets and has trained with them before the start of the matches against MI and SRH in Mumbai and Hyderabad. However, he has not participated in any games.
Despite the long training sessions, Dhoni’s fitness may have taken a hit, as a result of which he decided to stay in the team hotel and not reach the CSK dugout, which has been the case for the Super Kings for most of the season.
Stephen Fleming gives update on MS Dhoni’s return for CSK
When asked about updates on Dhoni’s condition, Fleming said that Dhoni is progressing well. “The calf is tough. If he comes down again and tears the calf, he’s gone. So we moved on it early.
“In the practice game, he tweaked it again; that’s my understanding. And since then, he’s been working hard to get some mobility back into it. But there was a setback. So it took longer than we thought,” he said.
The CSK coach further added, “But look, he is a good player in that respect. And he is working hard with the physio and doing all the rehab. We are really just waiting for the word. But all I can say is stop taking it lightly. He is progressing and doing everything.”
Urvil Patel flopped on his return to CSK’s playing eleven.
It was revealed that Chennai Super Kings veteran MS Dhoni is not keen to include himself in the combination after the youngsters found some form in this edition of the competition.
However, given the poor form of Karthik Sharma and recent struggles for him in the middle order despite the youngsters getting frequent chances, Sarfaraz Khan has lost form in recent games and Urvil Patel has also missed his first innings, Dhoni may need to get back into the mix.
