A massive fire destroyed the Toronto Humber Yacht Club Wednesday morning after a massive three-hour fire.
According to local officials, firefighters were called to the waterfront site near Humber Valley Road at around 4:47 a.m., where they found the building completely engulfed in flames.
As more personnel and equipment were deployed, the response was quickly increased from two alarms to three.
Toronto Fire Services confirmed that no one was inside the building and no injuries were reported.
Deputy Fire Chief Paul Fitzgerald said about 100 firefighters and 27 trucks were involved in battling the blaze. After this the fire has been brought under control.
The cause of the fire is unknown, and the Ontario Fire Marshal has been notified. Investigators are expected to remain at the scene.
The incident occurred shortly after Toronto City Council voted to terminate the yacht club’s lease, citing operational and environmental concerns.
Officials are asking the public to stay away from the area as crews continue to canvass and assess the damage.
