If you have a car with Google Assistant, you might want to check out this new update from Google Which brings the Gemini AI Assistant to both brand new models and existing vehicles. The update will initially launch for drivers in the United States, with a broader global expansion scheduled in the coming months.
With Gemini, drivers and passengers can expect more natural, hands-free assistant interactions that support more fluid dialogue to manage complex tasks, including route planning. With Google Maps data, Gemini can identify specific types of restaurants or sightseeing spots based on factors including preferences, outdoor seating, and even parking availability.
The system also provides situational awareness in real-time, allowing drivers to ask about stadium incidents or traffic disruptions, and even report accidents to assist other motorists; Gemini can also summarize incoming text messages and allow drivers to dictate replies for a hands-free messaging experience. As for music and media, the Assistant will be able to create playlists for certain moods and trips, and even instantly scan radio stations across the region.
The update also comes with Gemini Live (in beta) which provides general information about anything from suggested hiking trails to local history during trips. Gemini will also be integrated with the vehicle hardware, and the manufacturer will provide model-specific support by referring to the owner’s manual.

Eligible users signed in to their Google accounts can upgrade to Gemini directly through their vehicle’s digital interface; Once enabled, the Assistant can be prompted via the “Hey Google” wake word, steering wheel buttons, or the dashboard microphone icon.
In related news, General Motors recently announced that it is bringing the Gemini to select car models, including approximately 4 million vehicles in the United States.
