TL;DR
- Google Photos is adding a wardrobe-planning mode that works with photos taken of your clothes
- We first saw development work on the tool earlier this month.
- After first debuting on Android devices, including the new Moto Razr lineup, Google is planning to expand the feature to iOS users.
One of the more useful tricks enabled by AI involves tracking new clothes. If we see someone wearing something we like online, tools like Circle Two Search make it easy to not only find where we can buy that garment, but also preview how it would look on someone like us. This is great for new acquisitions, but what do we do if we’re having trouble choosing an outfit from our existing wardrobe? Google Photos may have a solution for this.

Google Photos can look at your past photos and use them to identify clothing items you own — or you can always pull up some new photos to catalog the rest of your wardrobe. Then once they’re all identified and grouped together in the photo, the system is ready to start combining them to create new looks.

If this kind of thing sounds familiar to you, you’re not alone, because it’s basically Cher’s outfit-selection computer from Clueless — we’ve been waiting for it for 30 years.
There are already some other AI-powered apps out there offering similar functionality, but Google is going to make it more accessible to smartphone users everywhere by incorporating it into Photos like this.
Although it’s rolling out starting with Android devices, including the new Moto foldables, this summer, Google It also shares that it plans to bring the tool to iOS at some point in the future — just be patient, as it’s going to take a few months to reach all eligible people.
