(Worthy News) – Iran’s newly installed supreme leader, Mojtaba Khamenei, issued a warning on Thursday, declaring that the Islamic republic will safeguard its nuclear and missile capabilities as a “national asset,” even as Donald Trump pushes for a comprehensive agreement to stabilize a fragile ceasefire in the ongoing conflict.
In a written statement broadcast on state television, Khamenei signaled a tough stance against US influence in the region, saying there was no place for US forces in the Persian Gulf. “The only place Americans belong is at the bottom of its waters,” he said. He said a “new chapter” was opening in the history of the region.
This comment has come amid increasing economic and military pressure. The US naval blockade has begun to disrupt Iran’s oil exports, while Tehran continues to control the strategically important Strait of Hormuz – a chokepoint through which about 20% of the world’s oil and natural gas flows. The disruption has already sent global energy markets soaring, with Brent crude prices rising as high as $126 a barrel.
Iran’s leadership has been going through a volatile moment recently following the assassination of former supreme leader Ali Khamenei during a February attack that also reportedly injured Mojtaba Khamenei. The change of regime has not softened Tehran’s posture, but rather sharpened its resolve.
Despite rising tensions, Khamenei framed Iran’s vision for the future in regional terms, and called for the Persian Gulf to be free from foreign interference. He stressed unity among neighboring countries, declaring, “With God’s help, the future of this region will belong to its people.”
Prophetic Perspective: Jeremiah 49 and the Window of Mercy
Amidst rising global tensions, there is a deeper lens through which these events must be viewed – one firmly rooted in God’s prophetic word.
In the book of Jeremiah 49, the Lord speaks directly about Elam – a region widely understood to include significant parts of modern Iran – declaring that He will “break the bow of Elam”, deliberately and symbolically destroying its military strength and national self-confidence. This passage goes even further, revealing that God will “destroy the king and the rulers from there”, pointing not only to weakened power, but also to a shaking of leadership – a removal and reorganization at the highest levels of power.
What we are seeing today is very similar to this predicted pattern. Deepening geopolitical pressures, widespread economic sanctions, infrastructure vulnerabilities and deepening global isolation – these are not just movements of nations. They are unmistakable shocks of God, reaching even the structures of leadership and governance.
Yet Scripture never leaves us alone in the shadow of judgment. The same prophecy that announces disruption ends with one of the most tantalizing promises of the ancient text: “In the last days I will restore the fortunes of Elam.”
The breaking of the bow of Elam is not the last word – it is the opening chapter of change. Behind the conflict, beneath the headlines, and beyond the stances of world powers, God’s redemptive purposes are quietly, sovereignly being revealed. Even as natural warfare unfolds before our eyes, there is a deeper spiritual battle going on—one that ultimately leads not to destruction, but to restoration.
