The Women’s T20 World Cup will begin in June 2026, which will be its tenth edition. It will be hosted by the England and Wales Cricket Board and will run until July. 12 teams will participate in the tournament, in which 6 teams are divided into two groups. Ahead of the tournament, the India national women’s cricket team has announced the squad.
Harmanpreet Kaur will lead the team in the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup. The Women in Blue will be looking for consecutive World Cup wins after their recent success in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 on home soil. After the announcement, Kaur addressed a press conference along with BCCI secretary Devjit Saikia and chief selector Amita Sharma.
Harmanpreet Kaur made a new record
Harmanpreet Kaur will be heading into her 10th ICC Women’s T20 World Cup tournament, having appeared in every edition of the tournament since its inception in 2009. This will be a historic milestone for the team captain. He led the team to the final in the 2020 edition, but finished as the runner-up of the tournament.
Smriti Mandhana will be the vice-captain of the team. The southpaw will be playing for her sixth T20 World Cup and has been the team’s best batsman across all formats, scoring 75 runs in four innings during the last edition.
Will India overtake Australia and South Africa?
Harmanpreet Kaur and her girls will take on arch-rivals Pakistan in the opening match of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 on June 14. They would like to bounce back from the last time they managed only two wins in 2024.
Along with Pakistan, the Women in Blue group includes Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh and the Netherlands. This group looks very attractive and it is believed that it will be a group of death.

We have a plan- Harmanpreet Kaur
Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues and Richa Ghosh will lead the batting lineup along with their captain Harmanpreet Kaur. They have quite a new bowling attack with Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh, who will have to take more responsibility in bowling. Kashvi Gautam and Amanjot Kaur were not available for selection due to injuries.
Speaking about his T20 WC plan, Harmanpreet said, “I think the powerplay is very important in T20, if you are batting, you have to aim for runs. If you are bowling, you have to take some wickets in that phase. We want to work very hard for the powerplay and also for the middle overs, because that also plays a big role. We have a plan and the lessons we have learned from SA.”
Harmanpreet said, “Amanjot is our key player, he is not available. He has been away from cricket for 4-5 months now. It was difficult to find a player like him, but we are trying. He got opportunities. We have got Radha back in the team, she is also an all-rounder. It was difficult to find a replacement for Amanjot. We are trying to balance the team.”
