Lockie Ferguson defends Kyle Jamieson after giving a strong send-off to Vaibhav Suryavanshi during the match between Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Delhi Capitals (DC) in IPL 2026. Ferguson made this comment after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) punished Jamieson for breaching the code of conduct.

Delhi Capitals defeated Rajasthan Royals by seven wickets at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Friday, May 1. The Axar Patel-led side chased the target of 226 runs in 19.1 overs, which is their highest successful run chase in IPL history. Jamieson took one wicket for 48 runs in his four overs during the match.

Lockie Ferguson defends Kyle Jamieson after Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s emotional farewell

Lockie Ferguson supports Kyle Jamieson on bidding farewell to Vaibhav Suryavanshi. He said Jamieson showed natural emotion after taking important wickets, adding that taking wickets in Indian conditions requires significant effort against strong top-order batsmen.

“Kyle is a good mate of mine. He was quite excited, which is understandable. It’s not easy to take wickets in this part of the world and it was a big thing. So I think it’s part of the game. I think the fans love to see the passion,” Ferguson was quoted as saying by Cricbuzz.

Having passion is great for the game – Lockie Ferguson

Lockie Ferguson refused to criticize the disciplinary action taken against Kyle Jamieson by tournament officials. However, he said that the passionate celebrations make for a better viewing experience and make the offensive reactions on the field appear more intense.

“I can’t comment on anything from the governing body’s point of view, but as a player, I think the passion that is coming out is great for the game.”

“As a fan of the game, you love to see players getting emotional, players showing emotions, players getting excited to take wickets… He (Kyle Jamieson) is also obviously a big man, so when a big man has a lot of emotions, it looks even bigger.”

Riyan Parag’s 90 runs went in vain while chasing Delhi Capitals’ target of 226 runs in Jaipur.

Batting first, Rajasthan Royals batted well and scored 225/6. Riyan Parag scored 90 runs in 50 balls after the early dismissals of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Vaibhav Suryavanshi. Donovan Ferreira scored an unbeaten 47 off just 14 balls to take the total to a competitive score.

Mitchell Starc returned for Delhi Capitals and took three wickets. Kyle Jamieson finished with figures of 1-48 from four overs after dismissing Suryavanshi early.

Chasing the target, KL Rahul and Pathum Nissanka put together a brilliant opening partnership of 110 runs in 57 balls, putting the opposition bowlers under constant pressure. Rahul led the innings with a blistering 75 runs in 40 balls and won the Player of the Match award for his efforts.

Nissanka registered his first IPL half-century by scoring 62 runs in 33 balls. Nitish Rana quickly added 33 runs as Delhi Capitals completed the chase comfortably in Jaipur.
