Former South African wicketkeeper-batsman Heinrich Klaasen confirmed that he will not be returning to international cricket during IPL 2026 despite calls for a comeback. Klaasen also ruled out playing in the 2027 ODI World Cup and said he would stay away from representing South Africa again in international matches.
Klaasen retired from international cricket in June 2025 after helping South Africa reach the 2024 T20 World Cup final. The batsman is currently playing for Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2026. He scored an unbeaten 65 off 30 balls against Mumbai Indians (MI) to chase 244, hitting four sixes and seven fours.
Kevin Pietersen demands Heinrich Klaasen’s return to international cricket
Former England captain Kevin Pietersen praised Klaasen’s aggressive batting. He urged Cricket South Africa (CSA) to contact Klaasen, saying the 34-year-old player is vital to South Africa’s hopes of winning the World Cup on home soil.
Pietersen wrote on Twitter, “South Africa have never won a Cricket World Cup! This morning Henrik Klaasen should have received a phone call from the South African Cricket Board, asking him if he could rejoin international cricket and be a central figure in their campaign to try to win their first World Cup, which will be held in South Africa next year.”

No, unfortunately not – Heinrich Klaasen responds to Kevin Pietersen’s comment
Speaking to Sports Today, Heinrich Klaasen responded to the comeback call by saying that his focus is no longer on international cricket. Klassen said he is focusing on developing his professional business.
“No, unfortunately not. For me, I’m looking forward to a new chapter in my life and that’s taking the game of cricket forward,” Klaasen said.
I’m really looking forward to partnering with Rotterdam, and we’re really working hard to make this thing happen and make sure that we run a professional business and we’re looking forward to getting the community behind us and bringing in the right infrastructure and the right people to make it successful.

I don’t think there is any secret – Heinrich Klaasen
Klaasen is second after Abhishek Sharma in the Orange Cap race with 414 runs in 9 innings at an average of 59.14 and strike rate of 157.41.
Klaasen said there is no secret behind his form. He compared his journey with that of Faf du Plessis and said that after retiring from international cricket, players should focus on off-field work and proper preparation to be consistently successful in the global T20 franchise league.
“I don’t think there’s any mystery to it. I think it’s confidence. If you look at our co-partner Faf du Plessis, he is like old wine. The more he plays, the better he is getting. So, since retiring from international cricket, he has been dominating in leagues around the world.”
“So, it shows you that it’s possible. It’s just that you have to take a little more care off the field and what you do and how you prepare for the big leagues. It’s not like you can just take a vacation and go to these leagues.”
