It appears that Mumbai Indians batsman Tilak Verma and Chennai Super Kings all-rounder Jamie Overton have resolved their differences ahead of the two teams’ IPL 2026 clash on May 2.
The two had an altercation during MI’s loss to CSK at the Wankhede Stadium earlier this season.
Clash between Tilak Verma and Jamie Overton
During MI and CSK’s first match of this season at the Wankhede Stadium on April 23, an argument broke out between Verma and Overton.
The incident began when Tilak Verma attempted to run, but Overton backed down onto the stumps on the same side where Verma was running. It seemed that Tilak was angry that Overton was blocking his view of the fielder.

Tilak Verma and Jamie Overton in IPL 2026
While it’s one thing for Verma and Overton to resolve their differences, there are bigger things to worry about.
Despite a century and a highest score of 101*, Tilak Verma has managed to score just 188 runs in 8 matches at an average of 27 and a strike rate of 169. Instability in his batting position has also contributed to these inconsistent returns.
After starting the season at the top of the order, Verma has now moved into the lower middle order/finisher role, a role he also played for India in T20Is.
Amid CSK’s middle-order struggles, Jamie Overton has been a rock in their lower order, making several saves already.
He has so far scored 136 runs in 7 matches at an average of 34 and a strike rate of 158, with his highest score being 43*. With the ball, he is currently CSK’s second-highest wicket-taker.
In 7 matches, Overton has taken 9 wickets at an average of 20.55 and an economy of 9.73, with his best performance being 4/18.

MI and CSK in IPL 2026
Both teams have won the IPL title five times each, but that has not stopped them from struggling this season.
MI has won 2 from 8 matches while CSK has also won 3 from 8 matches. Both the teams are in the bottom four of the points table.
CSK has already defeated MI once this season and MI are currently facing two consecutive defeats. MI’s early losses have also seriously affected their net run rate.
CSK will be hoping that they can get back to winning ways, especially against a team that is struggling like MI.
