Frisco City Council elections were held on May 2 for three positions, including mayor. While there was no Indian-origin candidate for mayor, there were three Indian-Americans for City Council Places 5 and 6. A viral post on Twitter read, “Every candidate with an Indian surname running for election in Frisco is getting destroyed. No one is in the runoff zone.”Frisco has been in the news for its growing Indian-origin population and the frequent attacks on them. Indians were discussed in council meetings, and they resisted the changing demographics and narrative of Indian-Americans.Indian-origin Srikanth Reddy (2,402) and Vijay Karthik (5954) were in the running for City Council Place 5, but were pipped by Laura Rummel, who received 16,348 votes.Another person of Indian origin, Sai Krishnarajanagara, was in the fray for City Council Place 6, which was won by Brittany Colberg.As social media posts lauding the poor performance of Indian-Americans went viral, one pointed out that this was because a large number of Indians are non-voters because they are on visas. “Give 10 years when all Indian anchor kids turn 18 and can vote and every Indian will win!” Another wrote.“A lot of people are celebrating the loss of Indians in the Frisco election. What people are missing is the white candidate who won by promoting Indians and ignored H1B abuses. Frisco is not going to get any better. One of them even wore a Muslim hijab…” said T-Mobile whistleblower Mark Palaciano, who has been speaking at Frisco City Council meetings.
