Shakira made history on Saturday, May 2, by performing in front of 2.5 million people on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
After her historic performance, the 49-year-old singer shared a special message for her fans on her Instagram handle.
“Couldn’t sleep. Too many emotions,” she began a long note. “What happened in Rio last night was unforgettable and hair-raising. There were two and a half million people there; together we can recognize the power of music.”
The Waka Waka hitmaker further wrote, “Even though it was a tough day for many of us, we came out to celebrate life with its successes and flaws.”
“The beauty of Copacabana reminds us what really matters, and the secret is to be present, to appreciate what is in front of our eyes. Contemplating the ocean, the beach, the mountains, feeling the sunlight on our skin, the wind. Because that’s what we are made of,” she adds. “And that’s the message Latin America sent to the world last night: It’s easy to be happy. And Rio reminds us of that like no other place in the world.”
Shakira also thanked her “tireless team and the thousands of people who worked day and night on this production, which involved many difficult changes to implement.”
He wrote, “And to my fans who came to Brazil from other countries or cities, who made history with me and, most of all, made me feel that those two and a half million souls last night were my family.”
Shakira ended the post with, “Thank you, Brazil. I love you!”
