I will be fine in 3 days – Varun Chakraborty shares update on injury
Talking about his injury after the match, Varun Chakraborty said that he is confident of recovery soon. He reassured fans that the discomfort was only due to impact and there was no serious injury that could affect his participation.
“It’s fine. It’s just the pain of the impact. Still not able to put the leg down completely. But in the next 3 days, I will be fine. He hit it very fast, and I had to stop it. Otherwise it would have been a four,” Varun said.
The injury occurred on the first ball of the 12th over when Ishan Kishan bowled the ball straight to the bowler. Varun stopped the ball with his left boot to save the four. Despite pain and limping during his final over, he completed his four overs before being substituted.
First four matches will be flat wickets – Varun Chakraborty
Varun Chakraborty said that the spinners faced challenges at the beginning of the season. He said that the initial pitches are favorable for the batsmen, making it difficult for the spinners of all the teams.
“I have been saying this every year. Initially when the IPL starts, the first four matches will be flat wickets. It is very difficult for spinners to come into the game. It has happened for every spinner. Everyone found it difficult.”
Chakravarthy returned figures of 3/36 from four overs against Sunrisers Hyderabad, his fourth consecutive match with at least two wickets. He increased the momentum towards KKR by dismissing Travis Head for 61 off 28 balls when the batsman bowled the ball straight to deep midwicket in the ninth over.
He then dismissed Smaran Ravichandran for four and Aniket Verma for six, while captain Ajinkya Rahane took both catches at cover. Kolkata Knight Riders became the first team to take more than 650 wickets in T20 cricket.
Varun Chakravarthy remained optimistic about the role of spinners in the rest of the tournament. He said that as pitches deteriorate over time, spinners will be brought back into the game as the league progresses.
“As the tournament progresses, the spinners come into play.”
Sunil Narine provided good support with figures of 2/31 and reached 201 IPL wickets by dismissing Ishan Kishan for 42 off 29 balls. He joined Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yuzvendra Chahal in the 200-wicket club. Kartik Tyagi also contributed 2/30.
