A few months ago, we wrote about under-the-radar movies, and you guys delivered. (I also agree! goodbye lenin! the place Beyond the Pines!) So, today, I’d love to ask: What are your favorite under-the-radar tv show?

Somebody Somewhere, if you haven’t seen it yet, is a love story between two perfect friends (played by Bridget Everett and Jeff Hiller) in Manhattan, Kansas. I love how the Midwestern characters are smart, hilarious, and nuanced – not just cute and wholesome.

This Way Up, written by Irish comedian Aisling Bea and co-starring our friend Sharon Horgan, portrays depression in a way that I personally found very truthful. If you like Catastrophe and Fleabag I highly recommend checking this out.

Have you seen PEN15? Anna Konkle (whose memoir just came out) and Maya Erskine play 13-year-old versions of themselves, and they are hilarious. “We had conversations about what the most unacceptable, awkward, ridiculous, sad, messed up times are, and it kept coming back to middle school,” Konkle said. Don’t miss the animated episode about Ana’s trip to Florida with her father and the two guys developing an attraction at the hotel. It felt like the Florida road trips my family took when I was in middle school. How exciting! Too much moisture! 21 hour drive from Michigan!

Finally, in afterpartyA man mysteriously dies after a high school reunion, and a detective arrives to investigate. She asks each party guest to describe their “mind movie” of the evening, and each episode has a character answer. Depending on their point of view, each episode becomes a different genre – one is a rom-com, another an action film, the third a musical. I laughed a lot; What a clever conceit.
Which TV shows do you think are underappreciated? Last night I started the second season of sister’sWhich was very good; and me too In fact Enjoyed Mo, in which Mo Amer played a Palestinian refugee in Houston who is trying to find work and love while seeking asylum with his mother and siblings. xoxo
