It’s really not a good idea to share any personal information on the internet, not least with generative AI chatbots. But what really pricks the back of my neck is the concept of giving Google Gemini a taste of my financial situation.
But how do you feel about this idea? Would you be comfortable sharing your financial information with a Gemini? To measure the temperature, we asked a similar question in a poll on Karandeep’s post. The results can be seen below.
It’s always interesting when no one answer gets an overwhelming majority, and that’s certainly the case with this survey. Just over 30% of respondents have no problem trusting Gemini with their financial data. This is a fairly large share of the total vote, especially considering that 35% of respondents answered, “Maybe, with limits.”
Given that both groups would consider granting these privileges to Gemini, this survey found nearly 7 out of every 10 readers are comfortable with a generic AI service having access to their sensitive numbers and statistics. Wild.
Like me, commentator Donald Rash is quite surprised by this result:
Wow! 65% of those who responded to the poll answered yes or maybe!! No me, Google has enough information about me without even getting my financial information!!!! Good luck to those who trust their financial situation to Google!!!(sic)
Notably, not everyone trusts Google’s AI chatbot. 24.8% of respondents would not trust Gemini with their financial data, but this represents less than a quarter of all voters. Another 10.2% are “not sure”.
Interestingly, while Gemini as a financial tracker has been rejected by many in the comments, a common recommendation also includes Google’s other AI-powered service.
“You can do this better with Google NotebookLM,” writes commenter salaigeethan666.
You’re probably better off with a purpose-built financial tracker app to aggregate your expenses and income, but if Google ever decides to create such a product, it could probably include Gemini with little to no pushback.
Don’t want to miss the best of Android Authority?
