Google’s nasty streak of problems affecting Pixel users continues, with reports discussing faulty, broken eSIMs.
As usual, reports started on this day Google Pixel Subreddit Earlier this week, the original poster reported that the eSIM for his Pixel 9 Pro XL had just been released (via ). Android Authority). The user says they rolled back to avoid the April security update due to “reading about a critical eSIM bug that caused the device to fail to recognize digital SIMs.” He said his Pixel would not reconnect or activate his eSIM due to this issue.
A user with a Pixel 9 Pro encountered the same issue: “Just unable to install eSIM, it keeps giving me an error.” A thread related to Pixel 9 Pro XL was started pixel community forumReiterating many of the issues expressed by others on Reddit. The creator of the thread says that they checked their eSIM with Samsung Galaxy devices and found no such issues with their eSIM.
Users are encouraged to check with their cellular provider; However, doing so did not provide any such relief. The problem persisted, leading them to believe that the root of the problem lay within the device. Android Authority found that this issue is affecting some Pixel 10 users as well.
Back on Reddit, a user with the April security patch reported no such issues. in the original poster the source said Some users who ran a “clean flash” of the April and May patches had this issue, and there’s still a possibility that a more traditional OTA update could still cause the eSIM issue. It is reported that Google is aware of the eSIM issue, but has not yet confirmed when the solution will arrive.

Most of these reports relate to Google’s April security patch, which had a separate conflict for other Pixel users. around mid-April, Reports emerged about serious battery drain issues. To make matters worse, the battery of many devices began to drain rapidly while idle. As you can imagine, this was a major problem for many Pixel users from the Pixel 6 to the Pixel 10.
Google has vowed to fix this serious battery drain in a future patch. Some users are waiting to see if the eSIM issue is resolved in the May security update, but many have not received it yet. Based on Google’s changelog, no such solution was mentioned for this eSIM issue, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. Hopefully, the solution has been found. If not, we may have to focus on June – or a surprise secondary patch later this month.

It almost feels like Google’s Pixels are being kicked when they’re down – or injured at best. We’re just coming off some much-needed wireless charging and display improvements in May, and now these eSIM problems are taking over with no solution yet. I’m hoping that in the near future Pixel users may find a time here where “problems” aren’t really problems at all because this eSIM issue is a real nuisance for a lot of people.
