Iran says it is still considering the latest US proposal aimed at ending the conflict between Tehran and Washington, as tensions remain high following a naval confrontation in the Strait of Hormuz.
According to Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency, Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai said Tehran was reviewing the proposal and considering its response.
Baghai also accused the United States of violating the ceasefire and violating international law during the overnight military action.
He said the Iranian military was closely monitoring the developments and was ready to respond to any “aggression and audacity”.
The comments came as Iranian officials said a US attack on an Iranian ship in and around the Strait of Hormuz left several sailors injured and missing.
Mohammad Radmehr, governor of Minab county in southern Iran, said rescue teams had recovered the body of one of the five sailors initially reported missing after the incident.
Iran’s Mehr news agency quoted Radmehr as saying that a search operation was underway for the remaining four missing crew members.
Earlier reports said 10 sailors were injured during the collision.
