King Charles appears to be in a tough spot over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.
Her Majesty, who has just returned from a trip to the US, is concerned that any gesture of an olive branch towards Prince Harry could cause problems for the royal family.
Speaking about King Charles’s fears, royal expert Duncan Larcombe told the Mirror: “Charles is in an impossible position at the moment.”
“She and Prince William can’t reach out to him for fear of Harry and then publicizing it. That’s the big hurdle. If they resume contact, they run the risk that Harry and Meghan could reveal more personal details and drop more bombs about what’s going on. That’s where the royal family is afraid.”
Duncan says: “If Charles rang Harry and said, ‘I’m coming to America, I’d love to meet you,’ the danger is that Harry would make it public. The breach of trust is the most important thing.”
Meanwhile, expert Richard Palmer says: “There is always a general concern that Harry or Meghan are going to say something that will embarrass the king and queen.”
He adds: “I don’t think anyone in the Sussex camp would have expected a meeting, but I would be very surprised if Harry wasn’t watching the coverage of their visit.”
