US President Donald Trump has rejected Iran’s latest peace proposal, calling it “completely unacceptable” as talks continue over Tehran’s nuclear program.
“I have just read the response from Iran’s so-called ‘representatives,'” Trump said in a post Sunday on Truth Social. I don’t like this – completely unacceptable!’
Tehran made its latest offer through Pakistani intermediaries on Sunday morning, according to Iranian state news agency IRNA.
The report did not provide details about the terms under discussion.
The latest exchange comes amid rising tensions between Washington and Tehran over Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
Trump has repeatedly taken a tough stance against Iran, which is developing nuclear weapons.
US Ambassador to the UN Mike Waltz said Washington had drawn a clear line in its latest proposal.
Speaking to Fox News Sunday, Waltz said: “President (Donald) Trump has been clear that he will never have a nuclear weapon and that he cannot hold the world’s economies hostage.”
During the talks, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian also spoke in an aggressive tone. “We will never bow our heads before the enemy and if it comes to dialogue or negotiations, it does not mean surrender or retreat,” he wrote in a post on Twitter.
