The Canadian government has issued a travel advisory warning citizens about possible flight disruptions and fuel shortages associated with the ongoing conflict in the Middle East.
In a notice published Tuesday, Global Affairs Canada said travelers headed to the Middle East or transiting through the region may face sudden cancellations and delays during the busy summer travel season.
“Summer is fast approaching and many Canadians are making plans to travel abroad,” the advisory says.
“The situation in the Middle East is presenting challenges that travelers around the world need to be aware of. Fuel shortages may lead to flight cancellations and disrupted access to local goods and services at your destination.”
The government warned that the impact could extend beyond the Middle East as disruptions to global fuel and supply chains could last for months.
“You should carefully assess the risks of traveling abroad under the current circumstances and plan accordingly,” the notice said.
Officials also stressed that Canadians stranded abroad may receive limited assistance and should be financially prepared.
“No financial assistance will be provided by the Government of Canada.”
The advisory encouraged travelers to purchase comprehensive travel insurance and to carry sufficient funds and medicines to support themselves in case trips were unexpectedly extended.
