Andrew Mountbatten Windsor is still struggling to understand his position in the royal family.
The former Duke of York, who was exiled from the Royal Lodge earlier this year, may never be fully ostracized by his relatives.
Speaking to GB News, royal commentator Rafe Heydel-Mancu says: “This situation… intersects with family loyalty, public outrage, and then you’ve got the survival of the monarchy, so you’ve got three competing elements there.”
He shared: “It’s clear that His Majesty (King Charles) and the rest of the royal family care about his brother, his uncle, his cousin.”
He added: “Despite everything that has happened, he is part of their family, and obviously there will always be concerns about his well-being and his safety. But at the same time, the monarchy has to be protected, and he understands that.”
Ultimately, Andrew “cannot be completely excommunicated” from the royal family.
“Andrew always believed he deserved taxpayer-funded security and his title and everything else,” Heddle-Mancu told the outlet. “He doesn’t seem to understand yet why he’s in this position.”
