Los Angeles police homicide detectives believe the killings of a family of four, including a child, in a quiet area of the San Fernando Valley were the result of a murder-suicide, authorities said.
Two adults and two young children were found suffering from fatal gunshot wounds inside their North Hills home after officers were called to the scene around 7:50 p.m. Wednesday. The dead were described as a man and a woman in their 20s, a primary school-age child and a 4-month-old infant.
According to law enforcement sources, evidence initially collected at the crime scene suggested that it was the mother who shot the man and two children before taking her own life.
“This is an absolute tragedy and given the number of deaths, the Robbery-Homicide Special is taking over the investigation,” said Captain Mike Bland of the Los Angeles Police Department.
Bland said there are no suspects at large and detectives believe the incident was a murder-suicide.
Detectives responded to the home in the 16000 block of Lawndale Street shortly after patrol officers from the Devonshire Division and immediately began investigating the crime scene with forensic technicians.
