Acts 2:14-36
Act 2
peter’s pentecost message
14 Then Peter stood up with the eleven and said in a loud voice to them, “Men of Judea and all the inhabitants of Jerusalem, understand this, and listen carefully to what I say. 15 These people are not drunk, as you think, because it is only the third hour of the day. (1) 16 On the contrary, this is what the prophet Joel said:
17 God says this is what will happen in the last days:
I will pour out my Spirit on all living beings.
Your sons and your daughters will prophesy.
Your young men will see the darshan.
Your elders will dream.
18 Even on my slaves, both men and women,
I will pour out my soul in those days,
And they will prophesy.
19 I will show miracles in the sky above,
And signs on the earth below,
Blood and fire and a rising cloud of smoke.
20 the sun will turn into darkness
and blood to the moon
Before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord.
21 And it will happen: whoever calls on the name of the Lord
Will be saved. (2)
22 “People of Israel, listen to these words! Jesus the Nazarene was the one recommended to God with miracles, wonders and signs, which God showed among you through him, as you yourselves know. 23 This man, who was handed over to you by God’s predetermined plan and foreknowledge (3) He was killed by crucifixion by anarchists. 24 He is the one whom God resurrected after freeing him from the pain of death, because death was not able to hold him.
25 “Indeed, David says of him:
I saw the Lord always in front of me.
For he is at my right hand,
I will not waver.
26 Therefore my heart became happy,
And my tongue rejoiced.
My body will also rest in hope,
27 Because you will not leave my soul in hell, (4)
Nor will you see your sacred being decayed.
28 You have shown me the way of life.
You will fill me with joy in your presence. (5)
29 “Gentlemen, brothers, I can confidently tell you about the patriarch David, that he died and was buried, and his tomb is with us to this day. 30 Since he was a prophet and knew that God had sworn to him that He would make one of his descendants king (6) on his throne, (7) 31 He saw what was coming and he talked about the resurrection of Christ, saying (8) Neither was he left in the grave nor was his body seen to decompose. (9)
32 “This Jesus is the one whom God has raised up. We are all witnesses of this. 33 So, after he was exalted to the right hand of God and received the Holy Spirit promised from the Father, he poured out all that you are now seeing and hearing.
34 “For David did not ascend into heaven, yet he says:
The Lord said to my Lord,
‘Sit at my right hand,
35 until i make you an enemy
‘A stool under your feet.’ (10)
36 “Therefore let all the house of Israel know with certainty that God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.”
