President Trump urged countries involved in the Abraham Accords to avert Middle East war, arguing that a broader expansion of the agreement, along with a possible deal on Iran, could reshape the region.
In a lengthy statement on Truth Social, Trump first gave a brief overview of the ongoing talks with Tehran and described them as going smoothly.
“Negotiations with the Islamic Republic of Iran are progressing well! It will just be a big deal or no deal for all – back on the battlefield and shooting, but bigger and stronger than ever – and no one wants that!”
Mr Trump then wrote a list of regional leaders with whom he had spoken in recent days on the situation in the region.
“During my discussions on Saturday with President Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates, Emir Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani.”
“And Qatar’s Minister Ali al-Thawadi, Pakistan’s Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Egypt’s President Abdel Fatah al-Sisi, Jordan’s King Abdullah II, and Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa.”
After naming the leaders, Trump said that in his efforts to end wars in the Middle East, the countries mentioned should join the Abraham Accords, which were first signed in 2020.
“I said that, given all the work that has been done by the United States to solve this extremely complex puzzle, it should be imperative that all of these countries, at a minimum, sign the Abraham Accords together.”
Hinting at political obstacles, Trump acknowledged that some countries would not be able to normalize relations with Israel, but said he saw no problem in other countries not doing so.
“The countries discussed were Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates (already a member!), Qatar, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and Bahrain (already a member!”).
“It may be possible that one or two have some reason for not doing it, and that will be accepted, but the majority should be ready, willing and able to make this deal with Iran a much more historic event than it otherwise would be.”
Trump claimed that despite instability in the region, the Abraham Accords have proven to be an economic and geopolitical success for member states including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain, Morocco, Sudan and Kazakhstan.
The US President also suggested Iran becoming part of the agreement after the end of the war.
“Speaking to many of the great leaders mentioned above, as soon as our document is signed, they will be awarded to the Islamic Republic of Iran as part of the Abraham Accords. Wow, now that would be something special!”
“I am asking my representatives to begin and successfully complete the process of getting these countries already signed on to the historic Abraham Accords,” Trump concluded the post. Thank you for your attention to this matter!
