Ora’s next big smart ring is its smallest yet. The company unveiled its Ora Ring 5 on Thursday, and the smart ring maker completely redesigned this fifth-generation device to make it smaller, thinner, and more comfortable than its predecessors. Starting at $399, the Ora Ring 5 is $50 more than the Ora Ring 4, but comes with some worthwhile upgrades.

The Ora Ring 5 comes two years after the company unveiled its Ora Ring 4, a capable but bulky smart ring. The Ora Ring 5 is 40% smaller than the Ora Ring 4 – taking up less space around the finger and providing a more comfortable fit. But is it worth the upgrade? Let me explain why you might want to choose the Aura Ring 5 or stick with the Aura Ring 4.

Describe what is shown in the image.

    1. You want a thin, inconspicuous ring

I am very happy to write that the aura ring is finally getting smaller. I’ve liked the Ora Ring for years, but it’s always felt like a piece of technology first and an accessory second. Its thick design is clear around my finger.

Ora moving away from the piece with its Ora Ring 5. This fifth generation ring is 40% smaller than Ora Ring 4. It is quite thin, almost indistinguishable from a wedding band. This new design can make it less noticeable on your finger and feel lighter to wear for days and weeks.

The Ora Ring 5 may actually be the first smart ring to blend in with other jewelry on the finger and could ultimately be attractive to people who have been put off by smart rings due to their chunky form factors.

    2. You want a longer battery

Ora has increased the battery life of Ora Ring 5 by one day. The Ora Ring 4 lasts for about five to eight days per charge, while the Ora Ring 5 lasts for six to nine days per charge. As I’ve previously reported, Ora users have experienced battery issues with the Ora Ring 4. Maz Brummond, Ora’s vice president of product, says the company has re-engineered the fifth-generation smart ring to boost battery life on this smaller device.

This includes adding more powerful LEDs for biometric measurements, adding a new battery to the smart ring, and refining the algorithms for greater efficiency. I’ll see if these edits are beneficial in Ora Ring 5 once I test it myself.

    3. You want a more durable smart ring

Unlike the Ora Ring 4, the Ora Ring 5 has a scratch-resistant vapor deposition coating. Ora calls it its most scratch-resistant ring yet, though we’ll judge that once we get it in our hands. The IP rating of the new ring has been upgraded to IP68.

You should buy Ora Ring 4 if…

    1. You have a smaller (or larger) ring size

The Ora Ring 4 offers a wider selection of sizes than the Ora Ring 5, which is limited to sizes six to 13. The Ora Ring 4 is available in sizes four to 15.

    2. You care more about software features (and savings)

The Oura Ring 5 has a starting price of just over $399, making it $50 more expensive than the Oura Ring 4. If you opt for premium finishes, which include Deep Rose, Stealth, and Gold, you’ll have to pay even more, each priced at $499. And don’t forget about the $70 annual subscription that unlocks a big chunk of your Aura Ring data.

The Oura Ring 4, although not as thin and light, receives the same software updates as the Oura Ring 5. These include some new additions to the smart ring’s capabilities, such as the Health Radar feature that monitors key health patterns including breathing and blood pressure during sleep.

The feature detects deviations in breathing patterns that could lead to missed readings during the day, Ora said in a press release. Breathe at Night is made possible in partnership with ResMed. If users experience trouble breathing during sleep, they can complete a sleep assessment and connect with ResMed providers for diagnosis and treatment.

Also: Why is your Ora Ring’s battery draining quickly (and what Ora is doing about it)

This isn’t the only connected care partnership that Oura has introduced with the Oura Ring 5. Oura has also announced a partnership with Council Health that will bring medical AI tools to the app. In a huge leap forward for the company, the AI tools can be used for clinical questions, as well as your general wellness inquiries you can ask the chatbot. Oura users can now connect with council physicians to receive medical care.

Finally, Ora introduced a GLP-1 Insights feature that tracks a user’s biometrics throughout their journey using the weight loss medication. The feature combines details like dosage, side-effect tracking, weight and overall biometrics to contextualize the user’s experience with the new drug.

As you can see, there are plenty of software upgrades that won’t be omitted in the Oura Ring 4, so you don’t need to upgrade to the Oura Ring 5 for these new features – just for the new design and longer battery.

    author’s choice

Although I have yet to test the Ora Ring 5, I am seriously excited to try it due to its new design, which is a new addition to the smart ring market. I have loved myself ora ring 4However, and there are very few problems with this. Sure, it’s a little messy around the finger. But it offers amazing health insights, reasonable battery life, and more comfort than a wrist-worn wearable device.
