Xiaomi’s T series has always been a reliable midranger. You get most of the good stuff, minus some features save for the pricier models. This year Xiaomi is closing that gap. The Xiaomi 17T series has just officially launched at an event in Vienna, and both phones are offering something that the T lineup hasn’t offered before.
With the Xiaomi 17T series, the Leica 5x telephoto camera comes to both the 17T and 17T Pro for the first time. On last year’s 15T, that telephoto was a Pro-only feature. Both models now come with a 50MP telephoto lens, OIS, 30cm macro support, and 120x AI ultra zoom. The other new addition is the Leica Live Moment. It captures the motion leading up to the shot rather than just a single frame. The 17T Pro also gets 8K video recording, which is a first for the T series.
Both the phones are now of different sizes. This is another first. The standard 17T has a 6.59-inch 120Hz AMOLED and a 6,500mAh battery with 67W charging. The Pro has a 6.83-inch 144Hz panel, a 7,000mAh battery, and 100W wired plus 50W wireless charging. Both feature IP68 and Xiaomi’s Vision Care display technology, which has achieved quadruple TÜV Rhineland Eye-Care certification, the first for any T series phone.
Chipsets are divided in the usual way. The 17T runs the MediaTek Dimensity 8500-Ultra. The Pro gets the Dimensity 9500. Both use silicon-carbon battery technology, which allows for greater capacity without adding bulk. According to Xiaomi, the Pro’s 7,000mAh cell is the largest on any Xiaomi series phone in international markets and is 27% larger than the previous generation. Both run HyperOS with Google Gemini and Circle Two Search.
