Desktop speakers are a dime a dozen these days, although despite there being a ton of brands on the market, only a few of them really manage to stand out. That said, we’d like to think that the Hecate G1000 II speakers fall into the latter due to the combination of features and overall performance. Part of Edifier’s legendary Hecate G-Series gaming lineup, the G1000 II speaker comes in a little cheaper than the others – but is that enough to secure a spot on your desktop gaming setup?
Hardware and Design
At only 10.2 cm wide and 12 cm tall, the G1000 II speakers are a compact pair, and they fit easily into the space below my monitor on my small desktop. In terms of design, they look similar to Edifier’s other G-series speakers, especially with the built-in lighting and polygonal look. However, as far as build quality is concerned, they feel solid and well built overall, with no creaks or rattles when handled.

Setting up the speakers is very simple, and once they’re powered via a USB connection, you can use the bundled 3.5mm audio cable to connect them, or go wireless with Bluetooth 5.4. The main speaker has a few control buttons on the top, including your power button, volume buttons, and a multi-function button that controls various sound modes and lighting effects.
Setup and Use

As mentioned earlier, the G1000 II speaker features a customizable lighting system on the front, which serves as a kind of accent around the speaker’s diaphragm. You can change their color via the multi-function button, and even activate pulsating light effects. I enjoyed the overall ambiance they added to my desktop, plus they don’t go overboard with the “gaming” design unlike what you see from other brands.

As far as sound goes, the G1000 II speakers pack 2.5-inch full-range drivers with up to 8W output; The speaker also features three dedicated hardware profiles that include Music Mode, Gaming Mode, and Movie Mode, all accessible via the multi-function button. They deliver clean sound overall with ample bass presence, and for desktop duties they are capable of delivering a great listening experience.
some thoughts
However, there are a few points to consider – while the speakers are great for desktop gaming, I wouldn’t say they’re the best choice in larger areas like a living room setup, where there’s a lot of open space and players sit away from the screen. Sure, they’re loud but you’ll probably appreciate their sound more when you get closer.

Additionally, the controls on top of the main speaker may be a bit limited for some users who would prefer a little more tweaks and customization on their part. Of course this is highly subjective but compared to other Edifier speakers, you get a little more customization in the way of controls.
However, overall, the Hecate G1000 II speakers come with good features, especially when you consider what you are getting for Rs 70 – they look good, feel well built, and most importantly, the sound is good too. People after a relatively affordable way to add some “oomph” to their gaming desktop setup will definitely want to take a look at these, if the limitations mentioned earlier aren’t such a big deal for you.
