Next week, I’m going to Oaxaca, Mexico for a good friend’s wedding. This is my first time visiting a culinary destination and cultural center, and while there are wedding festivities going on over the weekend, I’m especially excited to shop in the vibrant markets and see the colorful textiles and artisan crafts. But back to the wedding. I have outfits ready for a welcome-night cocktail party and a formal wedding, and yes, you’d be right to think that I’ve been gathering outfit ideas for wedding guests for the past month. My one condition? Something bold and bright to match the rich colors and culture of the city. After trying out different styles, silhouettes and brands, below I’m highlighting five of my absolute favorites that I think are perfect for a chic weekend wedding in Oaxaca. If you need some wedding guest outfit inspiration, keep scrolling!
Mango Satin Halter Neck Dress
When I saw this beautiful satin dress I had to think again Mango, which is part of its capsule collection. I was looking for a bold chartreuse-meets-olive dress – a trend-forward color that would look great against the Oaxacan backdrop. This dress comes with a very pretty halter neckline with an attached scarf-style cape that adds just the right amount of drama, volume and movement. The long satin fabric is ideal for a formal wedding. This is the kind of dress that will garner lots of compliments.
Cult Gaia Phoebe Gown
Cult Gaia’s Phoebe dress is absolutely stunning. It is incredibly beautiful and looks absolutely beautiful! The soft silk-chiffon fabric drapes beautifully, and the halter neckline is incredibly sophisticated (obviously a silhouette I gravitate towards!). Red was another color I was leaning toward for the wedding, and it really stands out from the crowd. My favorite part of the dress is the ruffled shoulder straps which provide a playful touch and create a trailing motion – perfect for the dance floor.
Carolina Slip Dress
Latin American brand Carolina K has some of the most beautiful designs, prints and hand-embroidered details combining artisan work from different cultures. The unique beaded straps of this slip dress really caught my attention (definitely Insta-worthy!), not to mention the bold floral paisley print. The dress features a fitted silhouette, a softly plunging neckline and an open back that’s equal parts sexy and sophisticated. This is a great option for a cocktail party I’ll be attending.
ALC Lu Satin and Lace Midi Dress
I was seeing a lot of dresses that matched the lace-trim trend we’re seeing everywhere this spring, but none quite like this vibrant orange dress from ALC. First of all, color! It’s made of silky liquid viscose fabric in the brightest orange color – perfect for a Mexican wedding. The asymmetric lace detail adds a romantic and feminine touch and fits into a soft flared midi hem. This is at the top of my list for a cocktail party.
Reformation Annabelle Dress
Of course, I had to try something from Ref, and I fell completely in love with this beautiful floral gown. The cowl-neck silhouette is beautiful, and everything from the pretty pink color and the intricate floral details hit my eye right. It’s a great choice for all types of weddings, whether in the Italian countryside or in NYC. This will give you a lot of wear.
