Next year the original iPhone will turn 20 – or rather, it’s the 20th anniversary of its launch, because we doubt any units still exist. Apple has long been rumored to be planning something special to mark the occasion, and a report a few days ago talked about an iPhone arriving with a quad-curved screen for the 20th anniversary.
As it turns out, that won’t be a special anniversary iPhone model — instead, that rumor was actually talking about a new design coming to the Pro series. So the iPhone Pro and Pro Max to be released in 2027 will have a quad-curved screen design, which Chinese smartphone makers did not long ago but then decided to abandon in favor of flat sides like the iPhone. What an irony.
Apple is also working on building under-display cameras into the 2027 iPhone Pros, but it’s unclear if this will actually go anywhere. We believe there is a better chance of the Face ID sensor being under-display, but this has also been rumored for a long time and Apple is not making any significant progress in developing such technology.
