Doja Cat hasn’t been shy about clapping back at critics, especially online.
The 30-year-old pop singer opened up about her habit of lashing out at her haters on online platforms.
“Well, that’s the question I was waiting for,” she told Vogue. “When I feel threatened, even if it’s not a threat at all, it goes like this: You are failing.”
Doja continued, “I feel like I have to defend my creative choices, and then I give power to those people, no matter who they are – they may have Cheeto dust on their fingers and they may not have a job.”
When will she stop doing this? the outlet inquired.
“I don’t know,” he replied. “In life, you grow. We’ll see where I’m at when I’m 50, if I’m still doing stuff like this on Twitter, who knows? Hopefully not.”
Doja was further asked if she intentionally seeks out negative comments online, to which she replied that artists can be “pretty critical” of themselves and sometimes look for validation for things they are insecure about.
When explaining, she said, “You feel like you’re more in control in a sense. ‘I’ve got it all figured out. I can’t sing. I’ve got it all figured out. I’m ugly. I’ve got it all figured out. I’ve got cankles.’ “
However, Doja believes, “It’s a wasteful way to spend your time.”
He added, “It does nothing for you except entertain a part of you that was formed during your childhood, a part of you that is stuck in the past.”
