A female police officer wept in court as she and her husband were accused of repeatedly raping a 12-year-old girl they brought into their home. Samantha Pellerin, 31, was accused of sexually abusing her adopted son when he was 14 years old.

The Massachusetts policeman and her husband, Daniel Forand, 37, are accused of repeatedly raping the boy they adopted in 2019. When he was three years old, he was removed from his parents’ home due to neglect and substance abuse. He lived with his aunt and grandmother until the age of 12, when his aunt was no longer able to care for him. Forand reportedly offered to take the boy under his wing. The accuser, now 20, wrote that the alleged abuse by Pellerin and Forand began “shortly after I became a guardian.”

According to court documents reviewed by The US Sun, she said in a handwritten statement that both Pellerin and Forand “sexually harassed me until 2025.” She also alleged that Forand had physically attacked her in 2026. Pellerin was not accused of physical abuse.

Pelerin was charged with multiple counts, including three counts of aggravated rape of a child by force and one count of aggravated statutory rape of a child. Pellerin had been suspended from his job before his and Forand’s arrest last week. He was ordered to immediately surrender all guns, gun licenses, FID cards and ammunition and was told not to approach or abuse the victim and to remain at least 100 yards away from him.

A similar abuse-prevention order was also granted against Forand, who faces 20 charges including child rape, assault and battery. Both pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Prosecutors demanded that the defendants be held on $250,000 (£188,300) bail, which they described as “grooming”, given the seriousness of the alleged abuse. However, the couple’s defense lawyers argued that the couple should be released because of their strong community ties.

The judge set $10,000 (£7,500) cash bail for Pellerin and $25,000 (£18,800) bail for Forand, both of which were posted.

The Plymouth Police Department said in a statement: “We are shocked and deeply troubled by the allegations.

“We hold our officers to the highest standards and expect them to abide by their oath both on and off duty.

“Our primary mission is to protect the public trust and uphold the law. We value human life, fairness, integrity, accountability and professionalism.

“The alleged conduct is a violation of our values and our core principles of service and safety as a police officer.”
