It’s certainly not unusual to want to change up your look at the beginning of spring, but this year, the craving feels especially strong after such a brutally cold and snowy winter on the East Coast. “Traditionally, spring trends are very light and playful, but this year feels a little more sophisticated,” the celebrity hairstylist shares. Dimitris Giannetos. “There’s still that feeling of freshness, but it’s paired with a more elevated, timeless approach. Instead of massive seasonal changes, people are opting for subtle updates that enhance their existing style, more sophisticated than a reset.” Think dimensional colors, vibrant styles and tiny cuts with super seamless grow-outs. Find them all ahead, with expert-backed product recommendations.

invisible layers
Heath, Giannettos, and Stephen all agree: Layers are hot this spring. In particular, the “invisible layers” are viewable. “They’re incredibly subtle but make a big difference in how the hair falls and moves.[The cut]gives my clients a seamless, polished look without blunt lines or bulkiness,” says Gianatos. Consider it “Cloud Cut” They gave Cindy Crawford, pictured above, a completely undone look with soft, airy layers.
“I think (layers) are a little underrated because of the popularity of the bob, because everyone wants a one-length, sharp, clean, tapered (cut),” says Stephen. “But I believe those clients are craving some volume and movement—that’s where the layers come in!” Also worth noting are the invisible layers that grow out seamlessly, which, according to Giannettos, speaks to a bigger trend of lived-in, low-maintenance cuts this spring.
